Explainer Video Production

If the script is wrong, no amount of animation saves it.

  • 2–4 weeks from approved script

An explainer has one job: someone who did not understand your product at the start understands it at the end.

That is a writing problem before it is an animation problem, so the script gets the most attention and the most rounds. Nothing moves until the words work read aloud.

What's included

  • Script, written and revised until it works read aloud
  • Storyboard for every scene
  • Voiceover casting and recording
  • Animation or live action, whichever the subject needs
  • Subtitles burned in and as a caption file
  • Versions for the website, for sales decks and for the feed

How we work

  1. 01 Understand the thing A session with the person who knows the product best. We are trying to find the one misunderstanding the film has to clear up.
  2. 02 Script and read it aloud The script is timed by reading it at voiceover pace. Anything that trips the reader gets rewritten before it reaches a storyboard.
  3. 03 Storyboard Every scene drawn, so you can see the film before it is made and change it while changing it is cheap.
  4. 04 Voice and build Voiceover recorded first, then the visuals built to the recorded timing rather than the other way round.
  5. 05 Subtitle and deliver Most people watch without sound. Subtitles are burned in for the feed and supplied as a file for YouTube and the website player.

What you receive

  • Master film with burned-in subtitles
  • Clean master without subtitles
  • Caption file for YouTube and web players
  • Voiceover audio as a separate file
  • Square and vertical versions
  • Script and storyboard as documents

Questions people ask

How long should an explainer be?

Under ninety seconds for a website; under thirty for a feed. If the subject genuinely needs longer, it usually needs two films instead of one.

Can you write the script from our existing material?

We can start from it, but an explainer script is written to be spoken, and website copy almost never survives being read aloud unchanged.

Animation or live action?

Whichever the subject needs. A physical product usually wants a camera; software and processes almost always animate better.

Do you provide the voiceover?

Yes — we cast it, and you approve the voice before the session is booked.
